Middleburg Heights RV Owners Want Code Change

MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, Ohio — Some folks in Middleburg Heights want to park their RVs at home. But city rules say no way.

These rules, which you can check out Building Commissioner, said RVs can stay at home if they’re in a garage or other enclosed space.

“This code has been around a long time,” Herwerden said. “We try to work with residents who just bring their camper home to clean it or pack it.”

Larry Willis, who lives on Bagley Road and owns a big travel trailer, spoke up at the June 25 meeting. He wants to park his RV at home for more than the allowed five days in a row or 20 days a year.

“We want to park our RVs at home during camping season, from April to November,” Willis said.

Committee Chairman Mike Ference said the rule was made after a lot of thought and discussion.

Councilman Bill Meany agreed. “The rule wasn’t made in a vacuum,” he said. “It was reviewed for almost a year before the new code passed in 2022.”

Meany added that changing the rule based on property size would cause more issues.

Ference was also worried about RVs blocking views if parked in driveways.

Mayor Matt Castelli said he would visit Willis’s property. “I don’t know if it’ll change anything, but I’ll come out and take a look,” Castelli said. “Let’s talk through it.”
