Black Bear Injures Sleeping Child at Red Lodge Campground
Wildlife officials are currently on the lookout for a black bear that reportedly injured a three-year-old child who was sleeping at a campground near Red Lodge. The incident occurred at around 10 p.m., inside a tent at Perry’s RV Park and Campground, located just south of Red Lodge off of Highway 212.
The campground, which is privately owned, has been evacuated and closed as authorities work to capture the bear. A live trap has been set up in the area to aid in the capture.
According to Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks spokeswoman Chrissy Webb, there were attractants present in the campground that may have contributed to the attack. The specifics of these attractants have not been disclosed.
The injured girl has been transported to a hospital in Billings, although no information regarding her condition has been provided at this time.
We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
