A man narrowly escaped being crushed in his own recreational vehicle during Hurricane Beryl in Brazoria County. According to Oakwood Village RV Park manager Jim Ustaszewski, the man left just five minutes before a tree fell on his RV. He had gone to work at the time.

The RV park in Brazoria experienced significant damage from Hurricane Beryl on July 8. One RV had its back ripped off, while another had its support jack destroyed, causing it to lean forward. A double-wide mobile home lost its roofing. A couple living in a Cardinal fifth wheel had their home rendered unlivable when a large oak tree crashed into it while they were in bed. They had to call the local fire department for help.

Ustaszewski and his wife, Gracie, have been working hard to restore the park. However, it is unclear if the affected residents have received assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) or insurance to fund repairs and replacements for their RVs.

In Angleton, residents of the Bastrop Bayou RV Park also faced damage from Hurricane Beryl. A woman’s RV was flipped by the winds, and a man lost his RV slide. Both residents managed to escape their RVs before further damage occurred. The woman’s RV is insured, giving her a chance for a replacement. However, the man has been unable to reach FEMA due to high call volumes.

Windswept RV Park in Oyster Creek and Highway 36 RV Park in Brazoria also suffered storm damage. At Windswept RV Park, a resident’s RV has a dent in the front from a heavy tree branch. Some residents at Highway 36 RV Park had to leave their mobile homes and RVs until they can be repaired or replaced.

Unfortunately, management employees from Windswept RV and Highway 36 RV Park did not respond to questions from The Facts.

It is uncertain how these affected individuals will recover from the damage caused by Hurricane Beryl. Have you ever experienced severe storm damage? How did you handle the aftermath?
