It has begun. The students are back, the traffic is about to get worse, wait times are going to be extra long, and we are going to start seeing even more people on bicycles.
Now I am all about taking advantage of biking season, it’s not as long as some would like, but I am also a fan of not having to worry is someone on a bike is going to actually follow “rules of the road”, or if they are just going to do whatever they want.
I may sound like a complete snob, but this is a PSA to the people who are going to ride their bikes.
If you are in the bike lane, cool! That’s what it’s for, that’s why it’s called a bike lane. BUT if you are not going to stop at lights, stop at stop signs, and just do whatever you want, then just start walking on the sidewalk. I know I won’t hit you there.
For some reason, cyclists tend to have this idea that they don’t have to follow the rules of the road because they are on a bike. Yet, they want to continue to have the “right” to ride on the road.
It’s hard enough to make sure I am not going to get t-boned by one of the careless drivers we see everyday. I don’t need to worry about whether a person on their bike is going to actually follow the laws.
So, if you are riding your bike during these beautiful days we have left, do us all a favor, follow the actual rules. They don’t just apply when you want them to.
